Position: Literary Agent – Children’s/Middle Grade/YA/Graphic Novels

Requirements:
LCS Literary Services is seeking a passionate self-starter with publishing experience, particularly as a literary agent, to join our team representing a broad range of young adult, middle grade, children’s literature and graphic novels.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
-Reading queries and evaluating manuscripts
-Signing clients to build and maintain a list of authors
-Corresponding with clients and editors via e-mail and phone
-Tracking submissions and managing extensive submission lists
-Developing projects in-house
-Composing pitch letters for submission
-Negotiating deals and contracts
-Writing rejection letters
-Editing and critiquing client material
-Preparing proposals for submission
-Cataloging client and editor correspondences
-Tracking and researching sales information
-Building and maintaining relationships with editors
-Assisting in the management of company social media outlets
Qualifications:
-1+ years of experience at a literary agency or management firm (excluding internships)
-Proven track record of sales
-Knowledge of the publishing industry
-Your own client list or relevant editorial experience
-Excellent people and communication skills
-Interest in young adult and children’s literature in both fiction and non-fiction

During this 10-week program (about 10-15 hours per week) you will learn things like:
- The querying process
- How to write a winning proposal for agents and publishers
- How books are published in-house
- Contracts and negotiation
- Market research
- Reading, critiquing and responding to submissions
- Day-to-day dealings of an agent and agency
- Social media / digital marketing
- And more!
